Description

The youngest of my three brothers it seems was born a naturalist. As a child he was always catching and playing with critters, some of them things I wouldn't even dare to touch. He played with all kinds of bugs, snakes, anything he could catch. I remember once when he was about 9 years old - maybe younger - he came to show me a beetle he had in his hand. He said, "this is a snap-beetle", and he proceeded to show me how, when he turned the beetle over on it's back in his hand, it would snap it's head back with a loud "click" sound and flip into the air to try to right itself. Needless to say I was intrigued and quite impressed by my little brother. Well the years have passed and we are both grown up and getting older and he lives right next door. No surprise - he makes his living via animal control. He deals with all types of animals and has a lot of knowledge. The above picture is one of a number of baby skunks he rescued from a pest control job he was called for. Isn't the little stinker cute? Enjoy.

Oh, I remember when Paul came to our door with this precious little one! I loved feeling the little paws and being able to pet that little head. And I also recall how he fell asleep in Paul's hand! A wonderful experience!

Skunklings are so cute...and well...they're smart as well! I suspect they'd make excellent pets, though they can be a bit stubborn and rather cantankerous when the mood strikes them. Ah, but I love them...anything that stings or stinks on purpose is pretty good in my book. Life would be so incredibly boring if there weren't critters in it to keep us pesky humans in our place. I suspect I'd get along quite well with your brother. I was the snake and bug kid of my neighborhood, and I'm still incredibly fond of things that most people wouldn't dare touch. I have a habit of finding wasp nests and sticking my camera lens in them, only to have disinterested wasps reacting as if to say: "Oh, it's just him, pretend you don't see him and he'll just go away." Ah, but I'm like that. This is a wonderful shot. I love skunks anyway, and so I'd naturally like it. But aside from that, you've created and composed an excellent capture.

I have no idea what they smell like, but very cute. Why doesn't he smell...or do they only do it when threatened?

It is only because both of you developed separate talents that we get to see the results, and I'm very glad I saw it!
