“You don't take a photograph, you make it.” - - Ansel Adams
UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

Excellent partitioning of the real subject matter and their reflections in this superb capture, Bill. I notice that reflections are often more darker and definitive in these type shots. And, now I know what this reminds me of: the little English boats in preparation of sailing off to rescue what remained of the defeated allied forces on the beaches of Dunkirk at the beginning of WWII.

There is something very special that surrounds a marina... the feel of a parking lot for a select few. Just being near a marina can make me feel as if I'm in a different world.

How did I miss this? I must have been off-world or something when you posted it, either that or moving dental equipment. How's that for an image, me moving heavy dental chairs offworld? Hmm...anyway, I love this image. The reflections are so crisp and sharp and I love the way you've captured the tiny ripples in the water that seem to fade as they progress to the right of the picture. The boat farthest to the left has the most rippled reflection while the boat on the right has the smoothest reflection. WOW! Such subtlety. I love it when something like that grabs me immediately. The entire image is wonderfully composed. The boats all seem poised, and so there is a sense of anticipation in this as well. I love that. This is a fantastic image, so full of detail and wonderful, surprising little subtleties. You've captured the entire world in a grain of sand, so to speak. Wonderful work!

more of what I mean by seeing quality. The muted hues, from a cloud-covered day, are I assume a challenge for a good photographer. They have a way of bleaching out the hues from under one's feet. What you did is capture an almost glass-like clarity, a brittle bluish overcast clarity that only these days can provide. I don't know if I'm clear on this, but this kind of overcast hue can create some very sharp images to those who seek them, and you've articulated that clarity resolutely, with the fine lines of the boats and their near-glass-like reflections, the way their masts continue behind the building, and the razor sharp fineness of the atmosphere. Even the waves (to the left) are sharp and glass like. And the bursts of red & blue are, to me, fine contrasts with the pale cast of the day. (Hamlet: "...sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought...") (Hey, how many comments give you Hamlet! This is a full service comment, my liege!) The water's surface is uncannily clear & beautiful, and the rocks at bottom root us (reminding us where you're standing). I get such joy seeing an image like this, because it has a joy in seeing itself, basking in a fine photographer's eye. It basks in the joy of clarity & beautifully captured diffuse light. Fine seeing, Bill! I'll stop here for today, but I'll be back for more soon....
