Description

A pair of male Boat-tailed Grackles. Wow, they were very noisy but let me get pretty close. I don’t like to repeat postings but this is a good view of why they are called Boat-tailed Grackles. If you look at the tail, of the Grackle on the right, you can see that it looks like the keel of a boat. Beautiful iridescent blue-black colors and about 16 ½ inches (42cm) long and with a 14 ½ inch (37cm) wingspan. Photo taken at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands, February 2nd. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments and favs. Dana

Excellent comparatively close capture of the two Grackles, talking up a storm, Dana. Love the colors and streamlined feather plumage on these avians, just like boat-tails. The wings appear rather long relative to their bodies.

A great shot Dana, such a beautiful colour and such a sheen to the feathers. I have never heard of these birds, how wonderful we learn so much by coming here!!

I love watching grackles court! The male is industriously extending his wings and flexing his tail and the female is close by feigning total disinterest. Wonderful image! You caught their beauty and raucous nature perfectly!
