Description

The Lincoln Memorial, taken from the base of the Washington Monument. The body of water that you see is the Reflecting Pool, located between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. This “pool” is part of the Constitution Gardens and it is lined with walking paths and shade trees on both sides. The pool is 2,029 feet (618 meters) long and 167 feet (51 meters) wide. It has a depth of approximately 18 inches (46cm) on the sides and 30 inches (76 cm) in the center. It holds approximately 6,750,000 U.S. gallons (25,500,000 liters) of water. It was designed by Henry Bacon and constructed in 1922 and 1923, following the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial. It is referred to as the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Some information from Wikipedia. The quality of this photo reflects the use of an old Kodak camera and the distance between the monuments. The statue of President Abraham Lincoln, in last night’s posting, sits in the center of this building. This photo was taken in the early 1970s and recently scanned. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments and favs. Dana

Hmm... almost 40 yrs old... that's great! At that time I had a cheap soviet made camera, named Etiud (Student), which was working with those kind of films covered with paper on back...

A cool capture. If nothing else, this is definitely a ghostly image with the greenish gossamer effects permeating the entire scene, Dana. And, I appreciate the highly detailed information you have been adding to these Lincoln postings.

Old photos always appeal to the archivist in me. I really like the "analog" quality of this. It's kind of like an old LP--one of the classics--that just has a little extra something. This is a really nice shot and I love the way the colors just look so non-digital.
