Description

(Another wide image, best full-view...) Lake Michigan Dawn, February 26. * * *
Thank you for your kindness on my return: You can't know how much it means to me that you came here when I've been gone so long. I've commented on half of you now & I'll get to the rest you tonight. (And I'll return for 2ds & 3ds...I've missed so much beautiful imagery, it's hard to do just a few...)
* * * A wonderful Thursday to you all. Much peace, Mark (PS--My fav's are messed up: I'll fix that tonight for sure.)

OHH WOOW, Mark! Look at that. It is so amazingly beautiful. The ice that got so soft and shiny on the edges looks almost like jelly and yet we know how it is. Hard like stone....untill it melts. Somehow I dont wish it will melt, because then you cannot make these fabulous looking ice photos. I know you have many gorgeous shots of it. More Please. :-)

Oh, this is cool...rather a characteristic of ice I guess:) The wide format adds a lot. You could have told us this is the shore in Iceland where ice meets sea...many of us would have believed it. But having an idea of where this really is along your lake...I'd suspect this is up close and personal with just a few feet of shoreline. The ice formations are fascinating...must jumble up this way from the gentle rolling and splashing of the lake water on a calm morning. Beautiful.

I love all your winter lake shots--they simply burst with light and color and this amazing energy. And to think you got up at dawn to do these--OMG---I don't even want to know how freakin cold it must've been!! I'm surprised your camera didn't turn on you, morph into this bizarre thing that sucks your whole self right into it. Geez, where'd THAT come from???? Guess the caffeine hasn't kicked in yet!! Anyway, this IS awesome, overworked and overused as that word is, sometimes things ARE just awesome!!

Astonishingly beautiful shot, Mark! I've never seen ice like that, I suppose Bill has given us the explanation.

This is the most incredible capture as the dawn light really makes the ice sparkle and shine. It almost... makes me wish I had some ice like this to photograph. Well worth getting up early for.

OMG, at first glance I thought those were billowing clouds at the bottom of the image, Mark. In fact, if you squint a little, it looks like a high altitude shot of a lake through the break in a cloud cover. In any case, superb clarity, light and shadow effects depicted in this capture of your frigid lake, my friend.

The light on water and ice is just superb. The surface of the ice seems almost unctuous in places, the way the sunlight plays off the slowly melting bits and pieces. I can see why you love your lake, and I'm looking forward to seeing many more of her moods as you take photographs throughout the year. This is gorgeous!

Winter may be cold and uncomfortable, but it presents so many magnificent photo opportunities - as long as you, the viewer, looks at them with an open shutter... No worries for you there - I love the way you look at the world. This is fabulous - great colours and light, fascinating forms, super composition.

Absolutely magical, Mark! Reading Bill i can understand what is going... but my eye is OPEN! The ice, with that smooth colour, looks like quartz rose...the shine is wonderful and if i didnt know it was your lake...well, i could think in an inhospitable and beautiful place; a dreamy iceland !! Really, your lake is a dream, in every photos i´ve seen from you!!And i am sure you add such beauty:) The way you capture the light in the ice and in the water! Everything wonderfully detailled! Superb,Mark! LOL!!I agree with monique!!You have indeed,a thing for photography:)Please,do more!

My first thought? semi precious stones, carefully arranged and captured, then as I sat back and stared, it became a scene of mountains going to the oceans edge, doesn't it look like you're flying high up and you're looking down at the earth on a crisp clear cold winter afternoon? And all along it's right there, inches from your camera lens! Amazing.

Absolutely glorious image Mark! For me another reminder that spirit is everywhere if one looks...Another great perspective in that it looks (to me) much like mountains beside the open sea with the sun beginning to wake the tiny villages, I love the sun and the shadows in the ice...this would make an absolutely beautiful painting I think...it takes my breath away and leads me to wonder what is beyond the horizon, to watch for incoming canoes from the native people...it feels very old, as if I am looking at history in a dream...I have a keyboard piece written by a friend of mine called 'Cherokee' that evokes the same feelings in me. I shall have to send you that so you can see what I mean:-) also Walela's Morning Song. I can see in this the natives with arms raised greeting the new day...Magnificent capture!!!
