Description

(Please see full...it's much fuller that way.) Chicago's Lakeshore, Dawn, February 11.
Hi everyone. In December we had a large fire in my high rise. The floors above me were gutted. They've been rebuilding them ever since, 6 days a week. Since I work at home, everything has been turned upside down by the blasting noise. So it's been almost impossible for me to be here more than a little. But I'll be commenting this week. It will take me time, so if I don't get to you one day, I'll get to you the next. I've seen almost everything all of you have posted, I just don't know how to catch up on comments. But I'll comment on everyone this week, and I hope all of you are doing well...
* * * Thanks to all for stopping by and a wonderful March to all... peace, Mark

Glad to see you back, and this is stunning! Don't worry about catching up, it's hard enough to keep up day by day!

Your photo says good morning to us all. It goes perfectly with your words. Knowing how you favor "lens flares" in your 2D work, I love how this image incorporates two sunrise flares on the edges of what must be tall, reflective buildings. The colors here are soft and graduated illustrating perfectly the growing intensity of light from a rising sun. Were your hands cold taking these pictures? Fingers thawed out yet? We all seem to be happy to suffer a bit of pain for that perfect picture...don't we...:)

Wonderful shot - I can feel the sun trying vainly to warm the crisp air, and can hear the sounds of the city slowly struggling awake. [I know this probably sounds perverse, but I miss the snow. But then I lived in a small village, where it was easier to walk or ski around, and we didn't have a car to dig out... The city in snow was a somewhat less pleasing experience.]

Gorgeous photo. I love how the sunlight is reflected on that gorgeous architecture, the ice on the shore is stunning, and I appreciate the POV and how you've caught the curve of the lake. It's lovely to see a big city slumbering--like the lake has a moment of peace and silence while the people are asleep. Superb contrast between man and nature. I hope you recover from the aftermath of the fire soon. It's almost spring and life will be brighter for those of us who live in the Midwest. I agree with MrsRatbag, it's hard for any of us to catch up here. Take care and welcome back!

Mark this is such a wonderful shot and started my day off so well. Glad to see you even if it is for only a short time as I know your so busy. The more I study this one the more it sinks in just how great it is. While I know the environment is frigid there like most places this photo gives off such a warmth about it. Catching the sun shining down on your city at this time of day really gives off such an inspirational feel. This image in a way is almost symbolic of what your going through now as you attempt to rebuild and recover from the fire, just as Chicago itself has gone through so much but as clear from this photo it too has recovered and still stands proud and strong.

These winter lake fotos of yours are absolutely stunning--one of these days I'm going to brave that weather and see it for myself. And as far as commenting goes, we all have times when it's just impossible (and I'd say a fire in your building qualifies as impossible!!) , so don't worry about catching up. We're just glad to see you!!

A gorgeous photo with such lovely colors. I always enjoy the contrast of nature and civilization. So very sorry to hear about the fire in your building. I'm glad you are okay. I'm sure the noise must be very disconcerting. Great to see you back on Rendo, Mark. :o) CC

This is a really great shot. Sorry about your building and the noise. When they were "Reconstructing" the customer service area, kicked us out of our offices so I.T. was in the other cubes, the noise and smells were horrendous. I can so relate to trying to concentrate on what was on my screen. It was hard.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh ... this is perfect, my friend. Absolutely stunning. The curve of the lake shore, the shadows on the ice and snow, the light on the buildings ... oh god ... that LIGHT!! ... the water (or is that a thin film of ice?), and the buildings creating their own musical composition. I like the way Two Prudential Plaza peeks through, and of course the massive bulk of the Hancock, which is my orientation point for Chicago. This is gorgeous, Mark. Just gorgeous. You have such an eye for this landscape, and this simply sings!
