Description

Captured 5/29/09, on an overcast day, at the beautiful Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in beautiful San Marino, California. Better viewed full size. Although they're hard, springy, most imposing, and even elegant in their structure, I was determined not to be bamboozled by the bamboo as I meandered in and around their closely set stalks. They (tropical grass subfamily Bambusoideae) can grow to a height of circa 120feet/36meters. I also have bamboo fotos from various other botanic gardens that I will be posting intermittently. I've made about five visits to this fabulous place, 21 miles away, since May of 2009, not only to take pictures, but also to view their ever changing display of fine art collections. I'm a paid-up senior citizen member so I don't have to shell out the exorbitant entrance fee each time I pass through their cultured gates. Hence, I've had the opportunity of snapping several tons/tonnes of photos there. Adios, amigos, thankx for the peek, and for your comments and faves.

That's really nice Harry. I like how the bamboo arches over the pathway :)

this is super. I just saw on that show "mythbusters" and they was useing these type of bamboo to test the chinse man who rockit himself into space with 43 of these links. It was busted. He dies ... very good shots of them and the person there shows how big these bamboos are

Like all these shots Harry. But the first shot is my favorite...the people give a real sense of the size...wow. Excellent quality images, particularly in light of the rare overcast day.

Every year we would get some of these long bamboo trees. Tie on a string of fireworks from top to the bottom. Lite it up to celebrate the New Years. Almost everyone had either the green ones or the yellow ones. Nice capture here. Aloha

Why, Thankyou so much, Harry! Just look at the size of those! It's a jooly good job I didn't accidently buy this sort when I chose mine! I particuraly like the fact that the road and the people give a sense of the plants enormousness. SUPER pics!

Harry, I regrettably have to stop here (around 35-40 minutes to pick 4 shots, what can I do? I'm slow!) But know I've left out a whole lot of others I loved. It's just, with long comments, I can never get to them all unless I'm here everyday; but I'll be back, please know that. While I wanted to do some of your flowers & fences & fine manipulations, etc etc, I had to choose this because it's lush, the variety of your choices is so fine, and it really gives an overview of what bamboo looks like, at least in the confines of the US. Your various shots, including straight w/ people, bunched alone, angled, beautifully separated by a walkway, and closeup, are gorgeous. They're all beautiful; and the promenade (#4) has such subtlety & fineness, it could almost be a painting or etching. You've really let us see the many sides to bamboo. And the final one reveals detail that most people never see unless they're there in person. (I've never seen bamboo but for a few moments; though I've drawn & painted it from photographs. The Orientals had a whole school of bamboo painting, because the plant is so rich in painterly implications.) You've let us see the many sides of the plant, and given us another expert sequence as well. Beautiful. As Andrea rightly said, "SUPER pics". A fine place to stop---for now. I wish you a fine Spring, Harry. I'll be back soon.

I love bamboo! I know it is invasive, but I love it anyway. I've never seen it so BIG! Wonderful shots! The first on is great! Firstly I like the idea of size that it gives and secondly, I get a sense of a break from reality. I would expect to see them sitting under the shade of a tree. To see the bamboo instead is jarring (in a good way). I stop, and look, and am amazed. The second shot is just beauty! I love the way they lean and the variety in color and brightness. The third shot gives a feeling of not just looking at them but being among them. I love the POV! The forth is a poetry of color and motion. The last is exquisite detail and color. Are the brown bits, old layers that are pealing away? The delicate shades of color are beautiful! I wish someones had not seen fit to carve on them. These are excellent, Harry!
