Description

hello again, and as always, thanks for viewing. a double thanks to those who take the time to comment. your comments are always welcome and helpful. this is a mask i made for V4. because i didn't know what i was doing, it's not only higher poly than it should be, it seems to need to be that way (based on looking at it). i planned for it to be a simple prop, and part of some sort of set. the set never materialized. it's UV mapped, but i haven't tested its mapping. it might make on OK freebie, if people like it. by the way, i used Blender to make these. it's a great, and very powerful program. and imho, not that hard to learn to use. i found the 3ds max interface harder to deal with, and found the Hexagon functionality _way_ too limited. the main difficulty was learning to model at all, which required thinking very, very differently. i think that's why so many people seem to take to the 2nd or 3rd tool they try. it takes that long for the basic principles to sink in. not that i'm a great example, but from my experience, i'd suggest modeling newbies take enough time and read enough to really get the hang of modeling before trying a new tool.

That is very cool--it looks like a ritual mask from some Oceanic or Asian culture, and I can see why you would need lots of polys to get the smooth finish--and how it would be fun to poke at in Argile;) Also to put nifty textures on !

Is that double-sided mesh, CD? It looks really well done, especially the detail of the ties. The purpose of the mask is, I think, irrelevant... it's the detail that counts. You might have to do a bit of retopology if you feel the mesh poly count is too high. That's been my issue with ZBrush: sure, you can create lovely mesh, but a pair of undies can end up with a higher poly count than V4! Regarding Blender: I've found that once you've started creating anything in this environment, it is very difficult to try to work in any other. I gave up on Silo for that reason, primarily, although the fact that it crashed so frequently didn't endear it any to me. I just got so used to Blender's hotkey: they became second nature to me. To the point that I find the new Blender a bit annoying: hopefully there is a way to get the old hotkeys to work again. Anyway, that is a very nice piece of work... beautiful craftsmanship!
