Really cool combination of colors going on. It does look as though someone carved some patterns in the cooled lava. Nice catch!

the texture reminds me of a Baumkuchen (Treecake?), you bake a thin layer of dough then put another one on it and bake again but short, and theese operations so long until the cake is ready! ;o)
