Description

Yes, I'm back from Prague as wicked as ever ! In Michigan city of Grand Rapids, they got real turmoil, when they thought (and massively called the police and fire brigade), that there was a person hanging from the roof of a building. When a crowd gathered, and police and fire brigade arrived to talk the 'unhappy person, which hanged there by the hand' off the sin (no one thought it strange he was so strong to hang there for hours), they found out it is just a statue. The Czech artist David Cerny created a life-size sculpture of Sigmund Freud, installed on Jilskà Street in Prague. The sculpture was hung on a metal rod over the street from the top of a building. This sculpture, more often referred to as the Hanging man was first exhibited at the exhibition “Respekt 97” in the Prague’s Lesser Town. Later installed at the Czech Cultural Center in Berlin; Moderna Muset in Stockholm; National Theatre in London; and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in London. Grand Rapids, Michigan, was the latest city to host the installation in 2008, before returning in Prague. Thanks for your kind comments.

I hope Mr Cerny was given the bill from the emergency services and didn't expect the tax payers to foot pay for his stupidity. Someone with a 'real' emergency could have died waiting for the fire brigade who couldn't come because of this idiot.

A very good relationship between events 'ensign' man hanging from a building and the statue of Freud! During the Christmas season in France, one sees more and more families hang on to their balconies, Father Christmas who excaladent windows ... from afar it looks like intruders!

David Černy! Ah, a man after my own heart. I wish I could visit Prague again. Actually I will visit Prague again...I'll probably do more than visit since it's my adopted home city! I love Černy's artwork. Please tell me you got to the Lucerna Passage and saw his rendition of Saint Wenceslas on the dead horse hanging from the ceiling! That is one weird statue, but not stranger than Freud hanging over a crowd of a bunch of faceless babies crawling up and down a tv tower! This is a wonderful shot and you've triggered all sorts of memories for me. I've walked that street zillions of times, with Pavl and with Honza, with Jarda and other friends. I miss Prague immensely and I am so happy to see this image! I could go on and on about David Černy and the other sculptures he has scattered around Prague (including huge human buttocks in bronze, sticking out of the ground,) but I will refrain from that and simply marvel at the beauty of this photo.

wonderful... and the way that you captured the Hanging Man, makes him look more like a casual observer of the humanity below him, just hanging around, enjoying the spring airs... cool cool cool!

A very casual attitude for a potential suicide with his hand in his pocket! And the skin is the color of metal and I don't suppose he moved much during the "crisis". Sometimes we are not very bright. Welcome back.
