Description
The Frari’s Basilica. The Deposition from the cross by Nicolò Frangipane. Christ is held by his Mother who is wearing a red vestment under her brown mantle which also covers her head but let the observer see the yellow cloth around her face. Mary Magdalene, behind Christ, to the left, is wearing a red vestment and has long plaits. Behind her the heads of Joseph of Harimatea and Nicodemus can be seen. On the right a man with a white beard, bare arms and with three nails in his hand, turns toward Christ. On the bottom left there is the inscription: “NICOLAUS FRANGIPANIS PINXIT 1593”.
