Description

There's this red rhody outside my office that I have been trying to get a decent photo of for three years. Every year when it blooms, I try again. I don't have any idea how many crappy shots I have of this rhododendron. A lot. With my old DiMage, every highlight showed up as fuschia, and the detail of the red was lost. This year ... Ta-da!! A new camera, a bit of familiarity with the manual settings, and I've finally got a shot I'm happy with. It's not 100% perfect, but it's certainly good enough. Three years. Dang! ..... I've left if large so you can zoom if you want to.

I find any colour that's rich and intense (including white!) can be really hard to photograph. I usually go for a darker exposure to try and minimize those weird highlights; it doesn't always work, but often enough it does. You did really well with this very very rich scarlet rhodie! And you can even keep trying, year after year, to better yourself...isn't that the fun part?

The older digitals always had difficulty with red, but have recently improved. I can't wait to try out red flowers on my new camera. ;c) This is an excellent capture, and yes, we must always try to better ourselves. This is gorgeous, and I love red!

Excellent shot! Looks like you mastered it! I have a flower nemesis as well, which I've been trying to capture to my liking for at least 15 years... maybe longer. Perhaps one day I will master it as you have yours!

Great job Tara. A red this intense can be very hard to capture. Every time I get a new camera, I have to go back and shoot my old subjects again. It's an obsession!
