Description
This is another gargoyle decorating the gothic cathedral of St. Vitus in Prague. It isn't a realistic photo, but a collage. In fact the gargoyle is much higher, situated on the same level as the two drake gargoyles you can also see. But I wanted to capture the impact it made on my imagination, so that this image tries to seize the emotion of the discovery, when I saw the archer with the dead boar at his feet, an image of by-gone days, when people had still to hunt their meal. And I also wanted to convey the sheer verticality of the building, which blends smoothly the religious impetus with the more prosaic needs and the carnality of the populace.

This is marvelous! I miss these guys! They're so ornate, and yeah, this is a true gargoyle...you can tell by the nose. The chimera just above him is quite nice too! I love your treatment of this photo and the colors are brilliant; when I think of Prague, I tend to think of things in this particular range of colors, but maybe that's because I've spent too many nights in cellars made from the same stones that make Saint Vitus. Marvelous work. (Oh, and did you get INSIDE Sv. Vitus too?)

Nice capture Sandra I just think of all the work and cost that would have gone into making this building, and the church tax charge that it would have cost the populace.. The couldn't do it now days... though I think many churches would like to try.. lol
