Description

(Bug Comic) Two hours south (by train) from where Bryan is snoozing, and six hours south of where Rain is re-reading P.G. Wodehouse, the Newton Wyr Insect Patrol is finishing up an all-too-productive night of rounding up giant mutant insects from the abandoned Azali base. The general opinion is that the bugs are the result of some botched Azali experiment. Frank, short profile (the harassed man here with the bug spatters), thinks that the Azali used the bugs for the same thing that humans do now--as raw material for making vehicles--the shells are strong and lightweight, like fiberglass, but tough enough to deflect low caliber bullets. The patrol's preferred way of bagging them involves swords and pitchforks, which keeps the shells intact. You'll see why plasma weapons aren't such a great idea, later. Bugs have paid for Newton's small hydroelectric dam, and it's water filtration system, which is why the mayor has resisted Frank's pleas to get the state to come level the base completely, and remove the breeding grounds for the bugs. Here Frank is making sure that each bug has it's bounty tag,(those red tags you can see here and there) so everyone on that night's patrol gets their share of the bounty money. Dawn in regulation armor, instead of undies, here is telling him that they need to put a request in to the state to hire more contract workers to help out, because six people aren't enough if they are going to bag 30 bugs every night. The other three people, Wally (Larry's brother), and a couple of guys from Wellington are busy throwing bug carcasses into the Multi Use Vehicle. (There wasn't room to show everyone here.) Dawn has already yanked off most of her armor--it's already hot and muggy out. Frank is following the rules about keeping armored up until they get off the base, but he's the only one. Frank doesn't want to discuss staffing, he just wants to finish up, run the Geiger counter over everyone's shoes, and go home and wash (possibly with a heavy disinfectant)and crawl into his hammock on the back porch, and sleep until the sun goes down. Larry is thinking he's going to have to go start his mail route in just two hours. ------------ Parts of the bugs are from The Ant Farm on Daz.

Great work on this one Lynn and from the looks of it she has the right idea as she looks exhausted and like she needed to get that armor off. I'm thinking their right that 6 isn't really enough to handle 30 bugs in one night.

EEEEWWWWW! Bug guts! How come Frank is the only one splattered with goo? Are the others holding back and letting Frank do most of the work? I think they need to feed the Bag O' Slugs some salt :D Excellent work on the scene and the story/background history!!
