Description

A profusion of yellow in the dunes just above the beach at Fort Worden, Washington. Tough plants and sea grass anchor the sand dunes from erosion by the sea along the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Oops, I just discovered this non-native Scotch Broom to be considered an invasive weed in the USA. Click Here for details Bill:) "Old Soldier" thumb_2050337.jpg

Yes, well... it is non-native and considered invasive but so is our ice plant that lines the coast and valley areas here. It still serves a purpose in anchoring the land in places that need it and it also is beautiful in those places where other plants would not survive... sometimes it deserves to be honored anyway. Stunning shots.

Amazing and great photo! I can even smell the special 'air', by looking at it! Whether Broom is weed or not, it is one of my favorite plants. My husband is not amused by that. He always wants to throw them away. (He pulls them out of the ground). In his opinion, they all "stand in his way". But I always take new ones from nature (back home ;-)).

It seems to be considered a weed, even here in 'OZ'. So how do you define a weed? a) is it something that grows excessively well in an area? b) something that invades an area? c) or something that causes damage to an area? The majority of plants, flowers, shrubs, trees etc. have that in common, trust me, I live on 3 acres and nothing is safe, given the right conditions, every plant has a weed in it, unless you learn how to define & control, before it takes over. Bill guess what?...I believe Goats are useful in controlling this plant ! LOL BB p.s. thanks for sharing this colourful display.

We have similar problems here with Japanese knotweed but its not as attractive as your weeds. I am a real fan of coastline walking so its great to see more views from around the world. Fine shot!
