Description

...no, I really won't be there:) But recently I had to change planes in Phoenix and I thought those of you who have never been to Phoenix might find these shots taken out my window interesting. The desert vistas are great in all directions. This is worth a ZOOM:) Phoenix is the home of one of our favorite Rendo photographers and world travelers (Sig, also known as, junge1). Sig's Gallery Top frame shows the Northeast corner of the Phoenix metroplex. The mountains are part of the McDowell Regional Park. The center frame shows one of many upscale communities build around manmade lakes and golf courses. White roofs are "in" to reflect heat and keep air conditioning costs down. You can't live in Phoenix without air conditioning. Phoenix is tied with Las Vegas for second on the suniest cities in the USA list with sunshine 85% of the time. A jet airliner isn't supposed to be operated in temperatures above 127 degrees F. Temperatures on the ground at the airport have exceeded that temperature. The bottom frame shows us (your's truly in a Southwest airliner) on the east side of Phoenix. The airport further east (center of image) is Falcon Field Airport in Mesa, Arizona. Our flight is about to bank to the right for final approach to Phoenix's Sky Harbor International Airport. So, that's your glimpse of Phoenix. Hope you enjoyed your flight. The next flight to Kansas City leaves in an hour and a half:) Oh, and yes the terminal is nicely air conditioned for your comfort. WiFi is free. Bill:) P.S. I just discovered that Marilyn (beachzz) has put up an aerial photo on her flight going into San Francisco. Click Here "Getting Late at the Lake" thumb_2053076.jpg

Can you see my sister's house? Right there! Great shots, Bill; I could never live there, I don't even like to visit (too hot for me!) But the desert can be very beautiful sometimes!

Have lived here and will say I'll take Tucson over Phoenix any day. Working as an elecrician we started at 5 AM, before 8 AM your into triple digits. Have been sent home around 11 AM when the heat exceeds 125. It's a labor law there and yes, Sky Harbor airport shuts down once the mercury reads 125, seems humans and aircraft don't operate well at those temps. On a good note I have never been so lean other than being a teenager

I lived in Phoenix as a kid, graduated from high school there. And a couple of years ago, saw exactly this same view on a flight to Texas (well, yeah, we stopped in Phoenix, just like you did, otherwise I never would have known it was Phoenix!!). What's cool about this shot is that I have one very similar I was going to post, taken just south of SF, as we came in to land--with houses all lined up nice and pretty. GMTA!!

Phoenix, eh... excellent aerial photo... My cousin lives in Phoenix and loves it... They have all four major league sports (basketball, football, baseball & hockey)... Too bad the Phoenix Coyotes couldn't upset the Detroit Red Wings in this years playoffs....

Nice aerials again, Bill! Sheesh - and I thought it got hot in Kansas City. 127 + is just a tad too warm for my tastes! Cool collage!

Really great DOF, clarity, detail and texture considering the distance, Bill. Glad you posted a collage this go-around. My favorite is pic #2. Well, in landing in Phoenix, at least you didn't boycott Arizona vis-a-vis the illegal alien controversy. I know I'm going to support the state law all the way in this matter.

That is seriously hot - too hot for my standards of a comfortable living, never-the-less, remarkable views... but who is flying the plane, when you are taking pix ? don't tell me: automatic pilot ! spiffy shots, BB
