Description

Just an update on our ducklings. The bad news first, there are only 7 of the original 15 left. While we watched for all the birds of prey, snakes and alligators – it appears that it is the snapping turtles that have taken a toll on the group. The 7 survivors are growing like weeds and we have 4 girls and 3 boys. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments. Dana

Excellent clarity and texture in this shot of the handsome duckling, living its formative days under perilous conditions, Dana.

Thanks for the update, sorry to hear that some haven't survived. I love seeing the little babies swimming with their families this time of year. Nice photo.

Sweet little thing; I guess that's why so many are hatched, to take into account attrition. Great shot!

Nature is amazing, if brutal at times. Snapping turtles aren't exactly a threat that I think of on a daily basis, but then I live in Chicago, where threats are of a more human variety. As for this shot, I love the details and the expression on this little duckling's face. This is quite gorgeous!

Wonderful capture, Dana! Mother Nature knows what she's doing, even if we humans don't like it. Very beautiful duckling

I wouldn't say it was bad news for the snapping turtles... There is always a winner and always a loser in nature. No tears for the survivor. :-) Exceptional focus and detail.

This is adorable! Thank you for sharing. Are they big enough now that the turtles will stop eating them?
