Description
Captured yesterday, 5/10/10, at beautiful Legg Lake in the beautiful Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in not-so-beautiful South El Monte, California.
Better viewed full size.
I knew this place existed but never thought of visiting it until I noticed on a map that there was a large lake on the premises. So, I thought I would give it a go, and glad I did. Other than various varieties of geese -- several of them most raucous -- at the facility, there were also mallard ducks, pigeons, seagulls, squirrels, and some blue herons, which are really difficult to photograph. Most of the fowl are used to humans, and quite accommodating, photo-wise, but the herons are really paranoid and take off when approached. In contrast, I was only a few feet from the geese shown in the collage when I snapped their portraits. The one in pic #4 is your usual, garden variety, white goose.
I took tons/tonnes of pics when I was there, which I'll be posting from time to time after I'm done postworking them.
Ciao, thankx for popping in, and for any and all complimentary comments and favs.

Them are some well behaved Geese lol. It looks like they all took turns posing for you.. very cute. And I see blue herons out here quite often, and you are so right they are the most skittish birds I've ever seen, I did get some photos of one on Mothers day I will have to post one to show you. But usually the second you get close they are gone. Looks like you've found yourself a nice new place to take the camera. Nice work~

Hey glad you found the place then. These are some great shots of Geese. My grandmother had Geese all my life as a kid. The first time one chased my butt across the field, with everyone inside watching was...thrilling....hahaha These guys look pretty cool and collective and glad they sat still for you to get their photos Harry!

Wonderful array of geese, like a catalogue! Excellent shots of these posers. I lived in El Monte once, and the grandmother of one of my roomies lived behind us with several chickens. It was a pretty rural area back then.

Very nice collage of these accommodating geese! I like the way their feet are progressively hidden as you go down the images. My favorite is #2, though #3 with its tiny little bit of orange leg, is a close second. Number 2 looks so pleased with herself and I love the deep texture of her neck feathers. It sounds like you found a great place! Excellent shots!

I've been attacked by #3 before and was rewarded for feeding him with welts all over my forearms. It was long sleeve shirts for a few days at work. Super collage and nice work to have them all facing the same way. Dana
