Description

Hi, friends! Scotland has beautiful landscapes and stunning places, and this is what a tourist like me and my wife or comrades normally get. Another dimension is the contact with the Scots themselves, and this is often missed. It is much more difficult to dive in their culture on a personal way, from human to human. I missed it very much. So after we had finished our journey, I explored the social dimension over their music, because I was in their music years before I had the idea to visit their country. So I began to search for YOUTUBE video clips - and I found HER! This is JULIE FOWLIS from North Uist, momentary the best scottish traditional singer in gaelic language. I never heard this name in last August when we visited Scotland, I found her in the i-net at the end of August or in September 2009. And I had never heard about a TV program named "Transatlantic Sessions". Now, 10 month later, I own all of her records, I own the DVDs from Transatlantic Sessions 3 and 4, and I got a deep inside look at the scottish traditional music scene and the "ceilidh"- atmosphere". This must be love on the first sight, and I believe that it was her smile, shown here...... I produce my own records, and this here was a compilation disc aka "The Best of..." created as an Christmas gift for some of my friends. They were very happy and very interested, because this lady is totally unknown in Berlin. But this will be changed.... This pic here was taken at 14th December 2009 from my old TV unit. It was very difficult: Interferences, dark and bright parts from the old TV valve technic, dozens of snapshots, a very long search for this special scene - and an endless stream of slow motion positions to find out this short moment..... The scene here is from "Transatlantic Sessions 3", where Julie sang with her comrade Jenna Reid and a bunch of session musicians (You can see more on my pic "Singing with Mona Lisa" some weeks ago). This scene was on air in autumn 2007 on BBC 2 Scotland and was a great vehicle for her career. The pic is now the front cover of my created cd, my friends were happy.... AND NOW THE SAD THING: I was told that it is not policy of Renderosity to set hotlinks to other i-net sites like YOUTUBE, I am not able to connect this pic to the originl life scene, or with other words: WE ARE NOT ABLE TO HEAR JULIE SINGING! I am very sad about it: Talking about music without listening is like show a blind man a picture or describe to him what red or blue is....Sorry! I will show the link here without hotlink. If you interested, please open up with copy and paist or search at YOUTUBE for yourself! Helpful tag is "Julie Fowlis", and there are a lot of video clips of very different quality. Enjoy and have fun! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnBBQ-_D2Hc Thanks for your interest and for your time spending here in an old man`s gallery! Thanks for your comments! Hope you send comments for this pic, they are all welcome. goodbye, billcody, Berlin

The great Julie Fowlis, a man after my own heart, what a voice. My only complaint about Transatlantic Sessions is that is never long enough. Have you heard Capercaille a wonderful Scottish band and the trio Lau who take trad Scottish music to a new level. I was lucky enough to see them in concert a few weeks ago, such energy and enthusiasm.
