Description

Another view of the sculptures of the Municipal House. This is the opposite side of the dome, and you can see a part of the mosaic. The Municipal House is a mixture of several architectural styles of the 19 th century. You can see neo-Renaissance, neo-Baroque and especially Art Nouveau features there. There is a mosaic above the decorative entrance, called Prague Apotheosis. The inscription above reads 'Resist the time wrath, Prague, as you resisted all the thunders!' The allegorical sculptures at the sides represent the nation. Thank you for your kind comments.

The Municipal House!!! Yeah, leave it to Prague to come up with such an extravagant building. I love the dome and the roof-tiles, some of the few roof tiles in Prague that aren't red! Well, the Opera House doesn't have a red roof either...and come to think of it, neither does the National Museum: okay, so Prague has a few non-red roofs, but this is one of the more detailed ones and you've captured that amazing detail perfectly and highlighted it with those statues. The oxidized copper and the glass of the dome is superb and intricate and this whole shot is just alive and vibrant! The statues look active and not like statues at all! And I know it's coincidence, but have you ever noticed that the statues in Prague with blowing, billowing clothing all seem to have clothing that's blowing in the direction of the wind that day? How do they do that!?

I remember this building in 1993 when I first went to Prague - this was before it was restored.I know they went way over budget but it was worth every penny. They had a club in the basement that didn't open till midnight and you could get a beer for 10 Czech Crowns. Not everything changes for the best!
