Description

This is a detail of the window of the restaurant of the famous Hotel Europe, in Prague. Built in the Art Nouveau style, it sports this old-fashioned advertisement of the Coca Cola brand. The play of the reflections of the trees and cars outside, with the patrons inside appealed to me. And the lady looking directly at the passers-by is very effective, her old-fashioned look giving the impression of a taste and a drink lasting for centuries. Thanks for your kind comments.

So many layers and surfaces! This is marvelous! The effect your postwork had on the three ladies is excellent! They seem to be frozen in a very vibrant moment of time. Modern, yet timeless. I like the guy by the car. He is less distinct and like the tree is more of a shadow image which gives a great added texture and mood to the work. I love the rich pastel colors of the ad and the ladies against the browner tones of the rest of the image! This is a complex and beautiful work! I love it!

wanted to comment on this for a while...This shows, once again, the questions you raise here, and, more importantly, the way you show elements cross over each other in life & in art. It's clearly a window; and full size we can see it has a world outside & inside. That alone is always a lot of visual fun (watching worlds intersect in the meeting-ground of reflecting glass). But it's also got this big painted advertisement---and an old one too. She looks so pure, esp with all that bright white), funny & provocative, given that coca cola was originally a drink with the formative elements of cocaine in it. I don't know when they stopped using cocaine but who knows, maybe it was still there when this advertisement was painted. (She looks so innocent!) But the puzzle comes in catching her in the middle of this window & its two-world reflection: That's what makes this an aesthetic teaser: three worlds at once, one of them clearly a work of art (ad art) and the others real life pouring in & out. (Seeing life in reflections does kind of make it look like art.) So you have a lot of layers going on. It's a fine capture and a provocative one too. And because of your darker background---both inside and out---her white presence stands out almost like a ghost. Wonderful juxtapositions Sandra. Fine piece all around.

You don't see ads quite like that anymore. Both in style and the imagination as to how they are implemented - takes time and money I suppose. It's neat to see how well preserved this windows painting is.
