Description
Hang down your head and cry.....
Captured 5/10/10, at the beautiful Whittier Narrows Recreation Area, in not-so-beautiful South El Monte, California.
Much better viewed full size.
I'm assuming the geese in the top two photos were the same guys, but distinctly remember the bird in the bottom shot was definitely not one of that pair.
I've got tons/tonnes of geese/goose shots in my files from this visit.
Toodles, thankx for looking in, and for any and all complimentary comments and faves.

They do always seem to be refurbishing themselves whenever a camera is in evidence; I do love these white ones, though. Excellent shots!

Preaning before dinner I presume:) Oh, that right, with most animals it is always soon to be dinner time. Good show Harry.

Great collage Harry. The top two photos look make sense to me but I’m concerned about the goose on the bottom. Dana

Great collage Harry. When I see duck doing this ritual I always have a question..." do they looking for something in a top pocket? "

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley. Poor boy you're bound to die. I love that song! Wonderful shots of these repentant geese! Beautiful detail and light on their feathers! It's amazing what positions they can get their necks into. Great captures!

there are several things about this shot that stand out. First the clarity of geese in their most exotic pose (to humans) bending in ways that only yogis can (among humans), I imagine. You got the poses very clearly. Second, the light in the feathers, highlights of sheen that feathers give off. They're surprises & delights. Third, the mix---from top to bottom, with not only a reversal in direction (just good montage), but with one of the birds in #2 bending over itself rather than under. What facility these birds have. And finally the last shot where we really get to see how far they bend. I always thought this was a form of rest---but people above say it's preening, cleaning, etc. So I'll go with them, since I don't know (and it sounds like the other people here do). It's certainly an intense activity. And you caught it with total clarity and stillness. A wonderful combo, and exotic to all of us who don't see this much. A lot of fun to look at too.
