Description

Captured 5/10/10, at beautiful Legg Lake in the beautiful Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in not-so-beautiful South El Monte, California. Don't cheat yourself, a ZOOM is a must in this instance. Another visit with a Canadian goose fine feathered friend, this one caught in the act of negotiating its way from shore to shore. A mild zephyr created the ridges/swells in the water, and made for a cool capture. Au revoir, thankx for coming by, and for any and all complimentary comments and faves.

I think that the texture of the water surface makes this photo stand out. Dana

Your description of the day has done a great job of putting me in the mood for watching this guy for some time to come:) Great looking bird but they do make a mess.

I see a sadness and loneliness in this marvelous capture Harry! The goose seems to be without direction! It is beautiful and I love the lightplay on the water! Well seen!

if I've not gotten to your latest yet, it's only so I can go back and pick up some more of what I've left out...I'll get to the new very soon. I've loved all your bird shots, and hope to get to more, but I chose this one today because of its serenity and yet intense 'activity'. It's serene---I suppose there's not much more serene than a bird quietly floating on water---but you captured the intense activity of the ripples & reflections, and that makes it a very 'atomic' shot in a way. The goose is surrounded by a very electric lake. And the lines of the lake harmonize with the goose itself (who's captured with the right amount of detail for a semi-distance shot). A peaceful & sensitive shot, Harry, you do birds proud. (And btw, Canadian geese are getting to be a bit of a pest here too---ala andrea's comment above---though for me, surrounded by staunch city-dom, I welcome them as a reminder that this area was once a huge forest sloping into the lake. It's a beautiful bird, all the same.)
