Description

The money in Kauai is concentrated on the North Shore. Fancy resorts and expensive homes line the coast road. I stayed at a modest place just outside of Lihue, the county seat, on the South Shore. While Ha’oles (white folks) dominate on the North Shore, the South Shore is more ‘Hawaiian’. The first day I drove into the interior of the island over roads often covered with mud. Eventually I came to an overlook for Wailua Falls, the Big Kahuna for Kauai waterfalls. The heavy runoff had turned the water brown. Still impressive but not as pretty.

Not all pictures have to be "pretty". Real is nice too. Thanks for sharing this.

Beautiful colors and atmosphere! I like the streakiness of the muddy falls, as long as I'm not close enough to get splattered. I like the disturbances on the surface. Beautiful, lush place! Excellent image!

Wonderful capture. While the colour may not be pretty, it is very impressive in its nature

You were there, Mark. When you consider just how few people in the world will ever stand there and take in that sight, a passing observer, sitting in his chair, might think you were blessed.  ;-) Oh, how significant and majestic we humans are! Nature is Master of this world .. and that's that! This is such a dynamic vision I can almost hear the roar of the falls. Very fine composition.  Your setting of the distinctive levels of the scene makes for engaging eye pleasure. Thank you for bringing this image back and sharing with us! I will likely be one of those who are never as fortunate to gaze a while upon this stunning vista in person. Beautiful work! Terry

You've captured the power of nature so beautifully. I like it with the brown running through it. Is that a little waterfall off to the left? Amazing that the waterfall run right over the trees on the left. Wonderful shot.
