Excellent capture. There have been nesting pairs of these on or near my property for many years but they never let me get closer than several hundred feet, lol. This year (for the 1st time) they have caused quite a bit of damage to several outbuildings as they went after all the Barn Bee nests in untreated framing timbers. The bees drill precise holes in the wood and make their nests. The Woodpeckers removed big pieces of wood away to get at them. As far as I can tell, the Woodpeckers did not stop until they had found every Bee nest that was built. I am not happy about the damage but nature does as nature needs and I have no ill will toward the Bees or Woodpeckers. I guess I need to build Bee nesting blocks and/or treat the raw wood timbers. I envy you getting this shot. I have tried countless times to do the same. Thanks for sharing. Lee
