Description

This bumble bee was one of many making the rounds on a large patch of purple lupine blossoms in off the side of route 16 in Ossipee NH. I decided to try to do a capture to see if I could accomplish it. As you probably know, you have to use manual focus in situations like this and you have to do it very quickly because bees do not stay in one place for very long. It's not easy. I snapped a number of photos and got perhaps three that were fairly decent. I liked this one the best. It is not perfect. The depth of field was extremely short and I didn't quite get it perfectly focused but I am fairly happy with it considering I haven't done much of this type of shooting in my time. Hope you like it. BTW, if you like these types of photos, take a look at the gallery by gbcalls here at Rendo. He does some cool stuff. Thanks for the look and comments.

I loved this field of lupine. And I remember you telling me you got a shot of a bumble bee...he is beautiful!! So fuzzy!! This is really good, hon! And yes, if you haven't yet, check out GBCalls gallery!

Really good Macro if you ask me, great shot. Hell, the reason I don't even own a Camera anymore is it's a waste, I suck at photography, always have. Peace

Mike, this is a GREAT shot of this bee! I can certainly appreciate the difficulty in getting a shot like this! I have a bumblebee photo in my gallery - frankly, I think yours is better - which was the result of chasing the silly thing around for 20 minutes! As big, fat, little helicopters, these guys are great. As cooperative models... let's just say they leave something to be desired! I think the colors in this photo - purples and greens - just make the black and yellow of the bee pop right off the screen. Superb capture, my friend!

Fantastic macro! It is fun and amuzing to try and capture certain insects, the photographer looks to be demented running for spot to spot, cursing aloud....

Mike, moving subjects require patience for waiting for the moment and quick reflexes when it comes. Thus more non moving objects like flowers are found in my gallery. Every outing with the camera only need be fun. Producing excellent results like yours are a big plus and inspiration to achieve more of the same. Well done!

This is about as good as it gets unless you're a camera man for David Attinborough. With the fast shutter speeds the aperature needs to be wide open in the f2.8 range and thus your depth of field is gonna plummet. In my heavy duty field work days I had to take thousands of pictures and so I know how difficult it is to get stellar shots. You done good boy.

You and Holly both have mad skills with those cameras. I'm doing good just to get everything in frame, my wife on the other hand is notorious for lobbing off heads. Anyway....great shot man. The motion capture had to be hard to pull off but looks like you nailed it.
