Description

BEST VIEWED LARGE - If you dare! : ) I didn't take this photo this last camping trip. I believe it was a couple of years ago but it was at the same place as we always camp. Holly has been bugging me to upload it. She thinks people will like it. I have my doubts since not very many people like snakes generally. We will see how many comments this gets. This beautiful, adult northern water snake was sunning itself at the edge of the water on an empty campsite about three sites down from us one day. I used my zoom so as not to get too close and scare it. These snakes are NOT venomous and are human shy and prefer to avoid interaction with humans. So, Roy, if Debbie sees this picture be sure to let her know this. Rod - Maybe you'd better not even mention this to Jo, LOL.

I think it is beautiful also. Of course living in Louisiana I am use to snakes, both the venomous and non venomous kind. :O)

Tough looking Snake, make a great pair of Boots, already waterproof. Got a lot of Snakes where I am too, gotta watch for the Diamondbacks and Sidewinders, they are the only ones here that will hurt ya. Peace

A wonderful animal! I have no fear of snakes, it does not disgust me. I myself already had a boa in the arms. But OK, with this I would not have known the fact that she is not toxic And then I run away :-)

Yay! You finally posted this, LOL. People are repulsed yet fascinated with pictures like this. I know I was at the time you were taking it. I like to see them from a distance as we did!! Great shot!

LOL!! "Rod - Maybe you'd better not even mention this to Jo, LOL." I probably won't draw her attention to this one - she freaks out if she even sees a little garter snake! I've had to 'escort' 2 or 3 of them out of the back yard for thier own safety! I don't mind snakes at all - I find them rather fascinating. I keep my distance from the venomous ones, but I have no particular compunctions reaching down and picking up those little garter snakes. Kept a few as pets when I was a kid. Great snake shot, Mike!

doesn't look like a harmless snake at all, I'll just go pet the little evil bastard - lol... I'm not a snake love... I had a friend (he passed a few years back) that loved snakes and lizards - I knew him since grade school, so I had to put up with it - lol... One night while I was at work, a friend brought over a large - A LARGE snake... over ten people were standing in the center of my front room and my 3 kids and this snake was wrapped around everyone like a giant circle - they took a picture and gave it to me when I got home - I said something other than thanks - lol

This snake I can tolerate, its the ones we have here that bother me. The king browns are notorious for wondering onto our property.
