Description

"There is no meaning to glory without your eyes to witness it." -Crixus, on Naevia's unexpected absence from the arena Naevia is Lucretia's body slave, never far from her mistress. Her secret love affair with Crixus is a dangerous betrayal of Lucretia, but she is unable or unwilling to resist the one pleasure her life of enslavement offers. -Character Notes for Spartacus: Blood & Sand
My original plan for the creation and display of portraits in this series was to follow a historic line through the story of Spartacus. Next up was to be the Roman commander Claudius Glaber, for it is he that is responsible for the enslavement of Spartacus and his wife. Plans have changed. It is Crixus who has forced this shift in progression. Never content with the rise of Spartacus to primacy, this powerful Gaul has shoved aside others in my studio and insited upon being next in the exhibition. Maybe you would like to take the matter up with him but such a disagreement is not for me; I prefer my head just where it is. As it was with Spartacus, however, so it must be with Crixus: love and inspiration always lead. With Spartacus it was Sura and with Crixus it is Naevia for she is the transformative agent which saves and redeems this gladiator's life. The recognition of their common experience with transformative love may be the only bond that ever unites these two dynamic champions. I hope you are enjoying this series! Beyond WOW! I love the light in her eyes - they glow with a compassion, a knowing that although circumstances may dictate where a person stands in life, nothing and no one can dictate who you love!!! Superb!
