Hi everybody,
My name is Dana Pommet and my wife’s name is Josephine. I was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts, in 1942, and except for a tour in the Navy, lived there for most of my life. I retired to Delray Beach, Florida in December 2000. We love to travel and photography goes hand and hand with that. I went digital about 5 years ago and started posting November 22, 2008. I have met so many wonderful people on RR and that makes this whole process so much more interesting than just posting photos. Thanks for all the comments and keep them coming.
Update  January 2012: After hiding and denying my mild Dyslexia, for most of my professional life, and now fighting with its advancement – I want to thank you all for putting up with my poor typing skills and spelling problems. I know that my spell checker hates me and I now depend completely on audio books rather then actually reading printed books.  Life marches on!  Â

I've always thought these type of rounded turret rooms were so magical; probably what comes of growing up in squat little square one-level crackerbox houses. Excellent capture of this wonderful architectural detail!

You seem as though you are having a great time Dana. This is an amazing architecture, I love the rugged stonework. hugs Jane xx

I like the rounded turret. I guess it has to do with visual references to old castles, and this building really brings that out--this detail of it anyway. I love the stone work, and the rough-hewn quality. Those windows are quite nice as well. What I really like about this sort of picture and this picture in particular is the whole detail thing: rather than just do a building shot, you only get a part of it, the interesting bits, and that always works wonderfully because it gives the viewer a chance to participate in actually seeing the place, rather like you would in real life...in bits and pieces. This is quite nice! Quite nice indeed! I posted this before, but there's more I wanna say, so here's the edit: Thank you for the dedication, and I have to say that judging by this one picture alone, there are a few spots in Chicago with your name written all over them! We still have a few buildings with interesting arches: I can't be absolutely sure but I think they were pretty big around here just before the turn of the previous century, or maybe a wee bit before the actual turning bit. One of them is Roosevelt University (the interior/lobby used in the film version of The Untouchables with Kevin Costner and Sean Connery. If you saw the movie, then the scene featuring a shootout and a baby carriage rolling down the stairs was actually in the grand lobby of Roosevelt University, minus the students and faculty. Outside, the grand entrance is full of arches and similar rough stone. I think you and your camera would have a field day there!)

The lighting angle really helped pop out the rough and ready texture of the stonework on this very sharp and beautifully composed image, Dana! That structure is about three steps above primitive.
