Description
I only visit my local beach here, at least from around May until September, when it rains. Firstly because I like the solitude of an almost empty beach (apart from other local and like minded doggy folk), and frankly I object to having to pay the to use a beach I already pay rates for. A tiny gripe, methinks, but a justified one, nonetheless. Hence, when blessed with rain, I park in Par (saving almost £3!) and walk to the beach along the river run.
This day it rained (Yay! Love the Cornish rain), so off to beach went Barnaby and I . Imagine my delight when I found hundreds (yes folks - hundreds), of these little darlings' nests along the entire length of the dunes, probably chockerblock with spiderlings, and glistening from the rain. The woven nurseries looked almost as though the top was made of plastic, so well were they made. It is no small wonder these spider mums are called Nursery Web spiders.
I think I am right in remembering that the males of this species offers up a little gift wrapped in silk before trying to mate with this fine lady. It lessens the chance of her eating him. Personally, I'd toss the gift and eat him! Just my opinion you understand. ^=^
Thank you for taking the time to look. ^=^

I love your thinking. Beaches are magical in the rare people-free solitude.

She is a BEAUTY! I prefer the beach in spring and autumn, but the sea is only warm enough in summer... and I do enjoy people-watching/sketching!

I think this is what I saw on our camping trip. Nice to see it has relatives in other countries - just like me. :-)
