Description

Through yesterday’s door in the guard’s gate, we see the castle’s drawbridge. There is no moat, thus there is no water to cross over. You can ZOOM to see that the drawbridge chains are only bolted to the castle walls and can't pull up the drawbridge. The door is functional and most likely used when there were organ concerts on the huge Hammond organ, in the Great Hall. Inside photos, in about a week, as my inside photo shoot, is scheduled for next week. Please keep in mind that this was his home. Details on the Hammond Castle, that John Hays Hammond Jr. built, can be read on my July 6, 2010 posting. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

Cool snap of this cool place, Dana! I think Mr Hammond dropped the ball when he didn't build a moat and real drawbridge to go along with this edifice of antiquity. That, and some alligators in the moat, and away we go! That would have really given it authenticity. Incidentally, love the stonework.
