It was said that the Jotun developed space flight a billion years ago and that for a million years, they ruled this section of the galaxy before disappearing...some thought forever. We know now that they were simply minions for a greater power that ascended to a higher plane of existence, but the Jotun were left behind, deemed unworthy, too malevolent, too violent...too base.
For countless eons they slept in the Sea of Dead stars, their star tombs drifting over bloated, aged and withering red giants and spiraling in the vast dark around burnt out white dwarves that had once been life-giving stars for their capitol worlds.
Until we woke them up.
They sent their bio-infiltrators first, to learn our ways and technology. Then they sent in their shock troops, the reavernauts, who stormed dozens of worlds in an unending tide of super-infantry. But that was just the appetizer.
Now we wage war with a foe twenty times our size, who was exploring the stars millions of years before the pre-Cambrian explosion on earth. Each one has an intellect that could make Einstein look like a babbling idiot, and their psychic abilities can fry every neuron within a hundred yards.
The tactiains say we're going to need something better than bigger guns if humanity wants to survive, but for now, big guns will have to do.

Excellent illustration of the writing. A bit hung up by "billions" of years ago. The entire Universe isn't all that many billions of years old. Millions? Yeah, I could go with that. (Smile)
