Description

This brightly coloured Longhorn beetle was covered in pollen, though it doesn't show up too well here. He/she was extremely busy flying around the nettles and making quite a racket in the process. The nettle he is perched on it one of thousands left to grow and germinate deep in the woodland, showing the fine management of Luxulyan woods. Thank your for taking the time to look. ^-^

What a beauty! It's wonderful that some local authorities, like yours and mine, are concerned about the environment.

The thought of a beetle making a racket is actually not so surprising to me. Often, flying insects remind me of propeller-driven airplanes...the propellers always have an odd number of pistons and something about the number of pistons and the shape of the exhaust chambers adds a particular "oddness" to the buzzing noise they make, and for some bizarre reason, insects tend to make that same "odd number of pistons" buzz; which begs the question of how many pistons they may have. As for this shot, it's quite lovely! Those colors are quite amazing, and this particular beetle specimen is quite a handsome one! I've seen the zebra-colored ones and a few of this variety as well, but this variety doesn't seem to occupy territory in the USA...the zebra colored ones are quite horrific to Americans, terrified of their tree-eating habits and if ONE of these is ever seen, entire neighborhoods go into quarantine and all trees are summarily removed, or treated with all sorts of toxic chemicals...and then removed. But that's just for the Asian Longhorn beetle, a voracious breed that could utterly decimate the USA...as if past presidents haven't already done so! This is a marvelous shot. Needless to say, I like it immensely!
