Born in Hilo, Hawaii and class of '66, I became very active in Barbells, Judo and love striking the heavy/speed bag. I've learned to Rollerblade and bike ride which is a very health sport. But time doesn't stop for anyone including for me. So my good friend Dave aka punaguy got me started in taking pictures. I'm having fun taking pictures especially hiking the mountains. I'm enjoying seeing the world thru your post on Renderosity. Mahalo and Aloha....Errol

50 feet? Little more than a horse shoe pit - damn... it's gotta be hot... I thought I read it was a hundred yards, a football field - sad... it sounds like the house could be gone for sure by the next posting... I remember you said he moved everything, I hope he has some really good insurance... ...The picture is much different from the recent entrees, it kinda looks like it's losing it's glow/heat... I see a couple "hangers" that make me think of what you call the main land - well, I don't know if your do personally - lol... my Mother went to Hawaii in 1976 and told me that's what she heard the continent was called.

Yes, we do call it the Mainland... Aloha

If they start digging a ditch in another direction and pour a large amount of water it may divert the lava flow

Oh no. Hope it turns out okay for your friend. This image is quite strikingly awesome. So dangerous and beautiful at the same time.

I am in awe of these last pictures and am fascinated by them. At the same time, I feel so sorry for those that are going to lose their homes.

I'm running out of superlatives to describe your marvelous series of lava shots. This one is superb and mesmerizing - I could stare at it for hours. Well done.

I would love to have my front door look like this on Halloween - looks positively evil! All it needs is a witch inside stirring a caldron. Great shot! I'm sure we are all hoping the lava will back off from Gary's place!

This photo is just outstanding. It's a shame Gary and others may loose their homes, I know I would be devastated but I guess it's part of the risk for living in paradise.
