Description
These are graffiti on a group of decorative brick columns supporting nothing at the opening of a little square among condos, more like an open, public courtyard, and a favorite by graffiti writers, homeless people and drug addicts during the night, because it's sheltered from the view, albeit it's downtown. During the day it's a shortcut for office clerks, housewives, students and the like. It's in Padova, Italy, not far from my home. Among the different graffiti I chose this one because it looks like the very famous expressionist painting The Scream by Norwegian painter Edvard Munch.
The original German title given to the work by Munch was Der Schrei der Natur (The Scream of Nature). The Norwegian word skrik is usually translated as scream, but is cognate with the English shriek. Occasionally, the painting has been called The Cry. In his diary in 1892, Munch described his inspiration for the image thus:'I was walking along a path with two friends - the sun was setting - suddenly the sky turned blood red - I paused, feeling exhausted, and leaned on the fence - there was blood and tongues of fire above the blue-black fjord and the city - my friends walked on, and I stood there trembling with anxiety - and I sensed an infinite scream passing through nature.' The environment of The Scream is often compared to that of which an individual suffering from Depersonalization disorder experiences, such a feeling of distortion of the environment and one's self. Edvard Munch created several versions of The Scream in various media.In the late 20th century, The Scream acquired iconic status in popular culture. As one of very few works of modern art instantly recognizable to a broad audience, The Scream has been used in advertising, cartoons, films and on TV. Ghostface, the murderer in Wes Craven's Scream horror movies, wears a Halloween mask inspired by the central figure in the painting. The work has also been used in political humor and in advertisements.

very nice information on the origin of the scream. if i understood right in this place the office clerks take on their way through the shortcut a couple lines of cocaine, the students have less money so they buy ecstasy or crack....... the house wife is prostituting for a quickie to finance her secret alcohol addiction. muhahahah.inspiring wall.

Lovely info on The Scream Sandra and super capture, but its still vandalism unless done with the buildings owner's consent.. In the past I have had to clean graffiti of buildings, houses, fences etc..

Aiieee! The Martians have landed! Very interesting information on Munch's work. The image has also been associated with the first world war in Europe. While it may be considered vandalism much of it is vibrant and creative. Some graffiti artists have moved from the streets to the galleries. We might consider this as practice.

Una bella veduta di questi lavori che , personalmente , trovo stupendi . Sono tra quelli che darebbero uno spazio apposito a queste persono , cosi' non avrebbero bisogno di disegnare sugli edifici ( molti son veramente artisti ). Bella spiegazione per quello che riguarda il quadro che io trovo di una carica emotiva strepitosa.
