--Please View At Full Size-- A transport blazes its way in through re-entry to Elysium Gate. Originally a Helium-3 mining facility in the upper atmosphere of Ciela IV, this sky city was bought out by the underworld boss Kenji Sato, head of the Fuma Exchange (which some allege is a front for the original Fuma Shinobi Clan from old Earth). Sato struck upon an idea of turning the Sky City into a resort for the ultra-rich from the galactic underworld. Eventually, those pirates, mercenaries, organized crime bosses and smugglers who actually were the lucky ones and had more money than they could spend began permanently leasing buildings and suites. So Sato turned the entire Sky City into the place where criminal success stories go to retire. Protected by a private army, and located outside the reach of any official law enforcement agency, the scheme has worked beautifully. It is the dream of every petty street thief on up to syndicate crime lords to "make it to the Gate" and retire. The plan has made Sato rich beyond all good sense. Not only do these crime bosses buy suites or entire buildings for themselves, but they also buy rooms for their mistresses, their grandkids, their favorite bodyguards, purchase berthing space for their ships and then pay Sato to have the most extravagant luxuries shipped in from across the galaxy. In addition, Sato is one of the chief information brokers in known space. The icing on the cake: Sato barely has to do anything but sit back and rake it in. These guys are all retired (or in some cases, semi-retired). And it's pointless for any law enforcement agency to leave the safety of their territory, face down Sato's little defense fleet, and then wade their way through an army of mercs to slap cuffs on an 80-year-old smuggler or two. Of course, that hasn't stopped a few ambitious bounty hunters from trying to settle old debts. None have succeeded, and most have been "shown the view"...meaning they were hurled off the edge of the Sky City for a half-hour fall into Ciela IV's turbulent and deadly atmosphere..dying of exposure, poison gases, or from sheer fright.
