BIO
My love for digital art started about 2001 when I created simple 2D-wallpapers for my Star Wars homepage. I always was annoyed with the picture-material I had, as it never fitted to my needs and I wanted to create more unique images. Searching the net for a program that could solve my problem I found Bryce. Soon I was a member of a Yahoo-group and everybody was talking about Poser..... That was the beginning of my friendship for this wonderful program! Everyday I learn more about this "mysterious" program and I think I'll never learn everything ;o) Hopefully one day I have the chance to build my own digital models, but at the moment I love it to texture models with PhotoImpact. That's it. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me! ~Saskia~
Update 2008
Sorry to say that, but I nigh completely abandoned Poser from my workspace, as I've moved on to Carrara, an application I learned to love and that challenges my intention to finally build my own models. I just have to find a way how and where to start learning....

Excellent.

Fantastic render; the cobblestones, sadly, in most sets that I use in Carrara are lacking-even with the displacement. I'd suggest taking the displacement you have into photoshop and deepening the dark areas and highlighting the lighter areas with the tools provided. Using the settings in the shader you can tweak the re-worked displacement mapping a bit more to see if it helps. I'd do a test run on a primitive plane with the displacement only in a render to see how it goes before reworking the scene. If you have C6PRo or C7Pro, you can use the displacement brushes and paint added texture onto the plane to see if that helps, I've used it in a few instances with rather decent results with wood, but not stone just yet.

This look great Saskia. I'm really glad that the suggestion about the lighting helped. You did a fantastic job on lighting this scene. It really adds to the atmosphere / feeling of the image. Jack and Lizzie look great, very naturally posed and nicely detailed (I especially like how clean the detail on Lizzie's cuff is), and quite happily drunk. As for the cobblestones, I'd have to agree with the suggestions that DarwinsMishap made (I've never used Carrara, but if it work like most other 3D packages, Dar's advice is excellent). One thing I did notice was that there are some weird rectangular artifacts in the cobblestones. It starts just to the right of the first upright oak beam, and is most noticeable in front of Jack's boots. It looks almost like the shader was using the wrong displacement map (again, not sure how Carrara handles shader assignments, but in anything I've ever used, you could go into the shader settings and tell the program which map you wanted to use for which function). Might be worth giving a look to see exactly what file that it was using, just in case the file got switched about by accident (or if the program glitched and grabbed the wrong map). Can't wait to see what you have in store for us next time. :)
