Description
Oni are creatures from Japanese folklore, variously translated as demons, devils, ogres or trolls. They are popular characters in Japanese art, literature and theatre. While Onis are described as gigantic fearsome creatures with long claws, fangs and wild hair there are stories of heros who have defeated them. Once an Oni is defeated he is often put to work by the hero.
While visiting a temple I noticed a large bronze lantern sitting on a heavy stone pedestal. But it was the little feet supporting this pedestal that caught my interest.

There he sits, defeated and grudgingly holding up the lantern to light the way for others. He looks none to happy about it either. Serves him right! Wonderful photo and mythology.

"I have defeated you! You will hold a bronze lamp for eternity. Not only that, but people will take pictures of you and broadcast your defeat worldwide." No wonder he looks grumpy. Nice eye and excellent capture! I love the sharp outlines of his facial features!
