Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Then you leave all that "food" on the rides... Every county fair I've ever been too had lotsa dust...that dust got on everything to include that delicious cotton candy...I can taste it now:) Once again you've captured both the atmosphere and mood. Well done.

Awesome picture. Food and rides a great combination until you go home and start to feel the after effects. Haven't been to a fair in a long time.

Not only are the lights a big draw but the smell of all that fried food and sugar can make you dizzy. Hypnotic...

I'm with Andrea. Fair food doesn't tempt me at all! The smell of all that stuff cooking is one of the reasons I avoid the fair ... bleh!! So while I hate the food, your photograph is excellent! Just looking at it I could smell and hear the fair, and have reminded myself anew why I don't go. LOL! Photography at its best! :)

Great shot - you captured one of the key elements of the fair - the food we know we shouldn't eat, but still do.

Ah...this brings back a rather disgusting (but hilarious) memory of such food. I was with friends (back in high school) at Six Flags: Great America. I don't get sick on vigorous rides, but apparently some people do...and on the day in question someone demonstrated that reality with spectacular results. Needless to say when I see fair food and amusement park food of any sort, I think of that poor soul and the other poor souls who were unwitting accomplices in a flagrantly spectacular and...upsetting physics experiment involving a loop-the-loop roller coaster, incredibly bad timing, corn-dog-ejection, and more incredibly bad timing as the roller coaster bottomed out after its loop. As Wanda Sykes would say, shaking her head and wincing as if she'd just bitten a lemon: Girl, it was tragic! Thankfully, I was not a participant in the event...but I have to say...it was tragic! Whenever the idea of amusement park food comes to mind, I think of that paradox of hilarious tragedy and that poor guy who'll never live that day down. On another note, I happen to luv a good sno cone...especially the red, blue, and yellow pre-made ones that are little more than multi-colored lumps of solid ice. This is a great shot that draws very vivid memories to mind, and I'm really happy to have seen this and to have chucked (at least to myself) at the memory of a roller coaster, and the kinda chubby kid who convinced my friends and I that getting on that roller coaster (after cleanup) was probably not the best idea on earth. This is a great shot and thank you for reviving a memory of a good day with good friends (yep...they're Facebook friends now) including the one I had a simmering high-school crush on...we actually shared one of those red and white striped paper bags of popcorn, and--me, being me--I always reached for a handful of the buttery stuff, just as he did so, just so that our fingers could "accidentally" brush. Ah...high school! I'm glad its over! But amusement parks and fairs...I'll always love those...especially if they've got a blue and red "Tilt-a-Whirl." Hmmm...ya ever notice that tilt-a-whirls don't tilt as much as they should? Maybe the corn dogs cancel out that necessity.

Hmmm - the health options!!! I love popcorn and feel like some right now! Very cool and very "American" shot Marilyn!

All the things that I can't eat but do it anyway at the State Fair. I figure once a year won't kill me. Dana
