La Vanessa io o Occhio di pavone (Inachis io LINNAEUS, 1758) è una ben nota e colorata farfalla della famiglia Nymphalidae, abitante delle zone temperate dell'Europa e dell'Asia. È l'unica specie del genere Inachis da alcuni autori considerato sinonimo di Nymphalis.
Il suo epiteto specifico fa riferimento a Io, sacerdotessa di Giunone dalla leggendaria bellezza.
The Eye of Vanessa or me peacock (I Inachis Linnaeus, 1758) is a well-known and colorful butterfly family Nymphalidae, an inhabitant of the temperate zones of Europe and Asia. It is the only species of the genus Inachis by some authors considered synonymous Nymphalis.
Its specific epithet refers to Io, a priestess of Juno's legendary beauty.
