Description

An absolute Must Zoom In... Well had a great time with this today and for those who have been following this work along.. I hope you like the finished work.. well finished minus small area touch-ups for the printing of this 17x40". Too bad the people at the show will have no idea how or what effort it takes to do something like this.. their loss.. but if just one person is intrigued enough to ask question to really get an understanding then it will have been worth it. If anyone was any questions on this effort please feel free to write me directly using my email address where I can then discuss freely and maybe attach screen shows to help me discuss. This was all done on a MacMini and an old Apple 23" cinema screen... my eyes need all the help they can get. I used Modo, Poser, ZBrush, Vue, and Photoshop. Vue is my working canvas that all else support. Again I want to thank Alex of Adh3d on his outstanding Chariot product what inspired me on this work. As I mentioned before he will be working on the Roman 4 horse version in the near future. I will certainly be using it in connection with my full BenHur Arena Models... imagine this as it turns the end of the Island just under the huge Arena Statue.. ops I think I wet myself. Cheers Don "London224"

Excellent. This just kept getting better. I don't think anyone will wonder how much work went into this, it quite obvious. Very detailed, professional, and action packed compared to what is being done now-a-days. - Bob

I don't think you will need to be a poser expert to realize this was a lot of work... but it helps. Really an amazing piece of work... getting all those figures in and properly posed and the atmospherics are pretty spectacular. That being said I would like to see a version without the rain, you could leave it wet and even have the lightning and clouds but I think the rain erodes a bit of what we can see of the image. And if this is in Egypt then rain would have been awful darn rare. This quible does not take away from the magnificance of the piece.. it is offered with due respect.

Brewgirlca.. You are correct about the rain and I may go there in the final.. at this size it is distracting a bit.. but the work is 17x40 inches and at that size and at the correct viewing distance it doesn't distract as much as here. The scene is not meant to be in Egypt, but as one of the visiting groups that were brought in all the time as were the animals etc. Anyway That for taking the time to comment... so buried in this it is good to hear other voices and as always wait a week before I go back to clean up before printing. I print myself on an Epson 400 pro which only does 17" wide so I need to read yo on doing border-less prints... just another thing to crack a manual on. Cheers

I too fear the rain in this version has diluted the brilliant colors of the previous one (where the presence of a storm was achieved by your use of puddles, splashes, threatening sky, ominous clouds and lightening)...In any case, it is an absolutely spectacular image - the talent you have for creating such epic works is truly mind boggling!

With you and Brewgirlca feeling this way I have gone around to look at how others have handled rain and have gone in and done a motion blur along the vertical axis and lighten up the percentage and I think you will all be happy with the change. Really appreciate you both commenting as you have... so often people don't bother to provide some personal insight that can be very useful to the artist. Its a shame really, because we can all use a critical eye to make us better.

It is a fabulous painting and a good example of real, serious 3D art. Observe, it doesn't even use plants! (3D's great forte). I think the rain will look great on the final 17x40 screen.

Very well done Don. Because of my limited 3D experience I can't really offer a true critique except to say I like it. :-)

I couldn't in my best dreams create something like this! It is supurb! And all the time and effort you put into this image shows! WOW! Kudos!!! I have one thing to point out though.. And pardon my presumptuousness. The tassels on the horses... There is barely any movement to them. They hang almost straight down.

Absolutely awesome! I must admit I was sceptical about the rain, when you mentioned it in the previous version of this pic. But now I like it very much - it adds to the "drama" of the scene, IMHO.

Excellent composition, Don. It is magnificent. I can see lots of detail, and nothing really artificial looking about it. No apparent transition spaces are immediately visible. It looks like a 19th century epic scale war painting, but on the scale of David's 'The Empress Josephine's Coronation' in the Louvre in Paris ( approximately 10m x 6m ). This should be so big, to do it justice, that most galleries would not have the wall space for it. I imagine that your eyes must be 'out on stalks' by now, my friend. Give them, your PC, 50" monitor ?, and red hot mouse/tablet and stylus a wee rest. Close your eyes, drowse off into the future, and imagine a PC which lifts your renders from your imagination. Well you can always daydream, HM's Government can't tax everything, can they... ;o) Warm regards, from a sunny-but-cold Glasgow, as Autumn gets ready to pounce, JOhn.
