An exhaust pipe from a clothes dryer perhaps? Probably not, but a fascinating image that leaves a question mark in the observer's mind...:) Excellent detail at the zoom.

WOW! The perspective, the colors, the focus in general does make me think of a periscope emerging from strange and uncharted waters and yet I can see clearly what this is...but that doesn't shift my response to it. I love the way that balance is maintained (at least in my mind) as I look at this. I love the textures and the color, and that odd pipe that also looks strangely like the larva or a particular type of mosquito (I've recently captured a few of those larvae so that I can attempt to photograph them as they pupate, and so whenever I see something long, skinny, and red, I think of a blind midge! My mind is a weird place at times) This is a marvelous piece of true photographic art, and I know that whenever I peek into your gallery I'm going to see something challenging, intriguing, and quite elegant. This is no exception. I love it!

(sorry Nikolay, I'm having troubles with my browser, thus the extra ebots on these...) As you've probably noticed, I've been here in small spurts with lots of absence in between; and when I return, I do 2 or 3 pieces in each gallery. With a handful of artists, however, I do more than that, simply because I can't stay away, even though I saw everything as it went up. One of the wonderful things about seeing your work is that I'm now learning photography myself; and each time I see a new Nikolay, I learn a whole lot more than I knew before. (It spills over to my 2D art too.) You've shown me new directions, made me realize I can do things I never thought of, and made me realize that quality lurks where I never knew it would. Case in point: This image. Consider: Your capture has a green wall; some swaths of decay, which you've brought to us with your usual eye-popping clarity; a vine---more green---clustered on the left & thinning-out across the image; and a nail, which is fine counterpoint because of its angle & its stark reddish hue in that sea of green. What do you do with this? First you see it. What does that mean? You find colonies everywhere, small visual 'ensembles', as if this were a Performance-Art ensemble & you caught one of its 'vignettes'. After all, these entities couldn't be more different, yet they've come together for the gaze of your image; and you bring them to us with such clarity you've illumined their speech, their story & their purpose. And you may think you could have done 'this' better or 'that' better---artists are their own worse critics, I know: But I see a dazzling ensemble made of totally disparate characters who speak to each other vividly. Also, the decay has luscious strokes, and the division---a triptych!---is perfect, because it gives a division for each visual 'event'. (Cluster, nail & opening, and a meandering 'period' to the end of the sentence of the piece.) Even the out-of-focus foreground is fine---it looks like leaves out of focus, and they add another layer to the work....You know, you often combine stark realism with abstraction, and you're one of the few who do it organically. This is a wholly unexplainable and wholly masterful piece. And now I'll look harder the next time I go out with my camera: That's what you do to me. Just a terrific piece.
