Description

Pzkw Mk I Ausf B This one's almost cute (if one can say so about a killing machine) when compared to what came later! Specifications for a light training tank were presented in 1932, based on experience with Sweden’s Landsverk Company and secret cooperation with the Soviet Union. In 1933, the Krupp chassis with Daimler-Benz superstructure and turret were chosen. The first Pzkw Mk I were delivered in April 1934. A total of 1,563 were built, the last ones in 1943. Several were sold to other countries (Spain, Hungary, China, Finland, etc.). The Pzkw Mk I’s battle debut was in the Spanish Civil War 1936. Its thin armour protected only against rifle and machine gun bullets. From this experience, it came to be regarded as a training and light reconnaissance vehicle. However, it was Germany’s main tank in the Polish campaign 1939. Weight: 5.9 tons Armament: Two 7.92mm MG13 Dreyse machine guns in turret Ammunition storage: 2,250 rounds Engine: Maybach NL38TR, 6-cylinder generating 100horse power Speed: 40 km./hour on road, 20 km./hour cross country Range: 170 km. on road, 115 km. cross country Crew: driver, commander/ gunner. 1:72 scale model by Esci (1981). Esci went out of business many years ago and the model is now available from Italeri. Assembly and painting by me. Enjoy! Camera: Fuji A303 digital

Excellent, I have to wonder what qualifies as a 'tank'.This is by any standard an armoured car, is it a tank by virtue of it's tracks ?.This is another great model, do you have a picture of this beside the Kingtiger?

Neiwil is right: this is an armored car on tracks. Hard to think that the Home of the Blitzkrieg produced such krapp and called it state of the art. Mark IIs were just as bad. Come to think about it, the MkIVs were substandard (but soldiered on), and the IIIs were trash. The only things that made the difference were the guns (the long 5cm and 7.5cm cannon), the radios and - the "proof" of the pudding - the crews. Armor wise, the Marks I to IV were nothing to volunteer for.
