Description
This image was taken last autumn at the public library in Scorz¨, a pretty town in the province of Venice where a number of graffiti writers and muralists from the region held a collective art exhibition. The place is also used for conferences, and one was going on while I was admiring the artworks and taking photos. I don't know who the lady and the young girl are, but they looked as if waiting for someone to finish whatever he was doing. In the meantime the girl looked at me until she got bored, and the mother looked at the coffee-table books on display. I love art coffee-table books and exhibition catalogues immoderately. When I go to an exhibition, whatever the subject, I usually buy the catalogue, and sometimes I even read it through. As for expensive coffee-table books, with their wonderful photos and glossy pages, I usually go to the remainder bookshop near home to look for a bargain.
Thank you for your kind comments.

Wonderful pic Sandra, you honestly couldn't have chosen a better setting to represent the perfect spot to enjoy a book. The art sets this area off so well and makes it even more inviting.

I'm only back for one comment per gallery today (still can't be here much, unfortunately), so I won't comment on the art series yet. (Sorry! It's still to come...) I instead jumped to this most recent image, part of another wholly delightful and thought-provoking series of yours, which I'm so happy you're continuing. The image itself is so fascinating & rich: A dark enclosed space, the constant verticals in the windows and the tall painting between them, and the girl walking right in front of that painting (that's a great addition, Sandra, it's terrific), even the metal frame between the two seats in the front. And in the angles/perspective lines, which make for a very vertical experience. I can't help but feel it's like a coffee-table-room chapel (as chapels & churches have those ascending lines & lights). I mean, your light has an almost mystical glow---on the table and through the windows. It's as if this space were supposed to glow and be private & sacred, a little temple to the book. Considering the allure of the coffee table book---a miniaturization of whole tracts of the world crammed into a single book---it's fitting. And as for coffee table books themselves: That's why they're so appealing, to my mind. They bring whole worlds under two covers, and so vividly. Wonderful evocation in image and thoughts, and a delightful topic (reading/books, as seen through art). I'll comment on the other works over time, I promise, but for today at least I finally got back here between absences, and got to tell you what a joy these series are. I don't know how you got that girl, but it's one of those moments in a photograph where the gods seem to conspire with the artist. It's the final jewel in the crown. (Sign her up! Pronto!)
