Description

Suggest you Zoom In... Straight render... no postwork I originally started this for the current 3D character competition at E-ON, but that is really focusing on a single figure and what I would really like is for Vue users to see that one can do more complex character scenes in this program. "Nerves" depicts a young man getting sick as he starts out with his fellow Civil War Sailors inside the first Union submarine. The scene is made from my Alligator model on Cornucopia. Modeled in Modo, I exported the seats & center crank as an obj into Poser where I can then pose Micheal 4 variations as they sit or stand around these objects. The figures are then saves as a group and imported as a Poser file into the Vue scene. My model of the USS Alligator for Vue provides both external and a separate internal model and naturally I was hoping that people would find it an interesting model after seeing my large canvas works based on it... but I was also hoping that Vue artists would take on the challenge of more complex scenes like my recent "The Race". "Nerves" & "The Race" I Hope, show what can be done on a MacMini. If you have a version of Vue running in 32 or 64 bit, the speed will make you run through your homes singing... we're talking a few hrs rather then days for images that I print out 14/16x40". Naturally the smaller or older your machine and what version of Vue you use will make a difference...as will those running much larger machines then my Macmini. Finally, let me say something about time. Take the time to really achieve your creation. Develop your idea, push your skill set, go out and investigate new techniques for that little extra you want to add. I will often put together a scene and then spend 8-10 hrs investigating different lighting and atmospheres. Each effort helps me push what I know and understand. Remember that a month from now, a year from now, you won't remember how long you spent on a given work... you will only see the end result. Added Note: I usually do a fair amount of post work, but the contest required no post work of any kind, so where I would have used Poser as the render engine in this, not allowed.. plus I want to see how far I could get without using SkinVue also. ...and... the Alligator was a French design with paddles on the sides.. you can see the round plugged connections mid way up the walls. They were replaced by the Union Navy with this central system.

This is absolutely incredible! The amount of detail and work you've clearly put into this really shows! You truly get a feel for what it was like in a superbly confined space like a Civil War era sub (I can only guess that the Hunley was your inspiration eyebats). Really, really exceptional work!

wow...did an external model of this back in the day, but nowhere near this detailed. Love the work. Didn't the original Alligator have a sort of 'rowing' system,(could have been dropped in a later model); I think the crank was more of the 'SS Hey Y'all Watch this' of the Confederate sub? Great pic, likes it.

Very cool. it would have been interesting to see if she would have been able to pull off a wartime mission. Granted she was the first, out during the Civil war. The H.L Hunley was the first to successfully attack union ships. But the emotion you have captured here I think is common to both ships. the crews were determined and disciplined to trust a tech that tended to kill the crews better than the war could. Your level of detail is goos and you kept to her operational blueprints and not artistic license.. Good work here!

I love to see how you are pushing the boundaries of Vue and Poser into the realms of the classical painters and how particular you are with details. But war and technical stuff really doesn't have much interest for me - only beauty has. Therefore I very much prefer your last painting, Lady in the Window. Also these .variations of Michael 4 looks too similar. Still is a great work though!

Excellent, detailed work as usual. You do spend the time putting interesting detail that adds to the scean. Personally, I like the renderer in Poser better for figures and assemble everything in photoshop. Just have to remember the perspective and lighting, so it goes together correctly. But you are right, push, experiment and take the time to get it right. Again great image. - Bob

Stunning scene. Really feel like I'm inside with them. And your advice about creating is right on. It is only the result that matters, now how or how long it takes to get there. CC

I think you well capture a moment of horror in war, or in any challenging endeavor, when one member's nerves fail and he vomits. Forever more will the kid be known as puke face until he redeams himself in combat. Can you imagine being stuck in a hot, sweaty steel contraption that someone has just vomited over? Hideous. Not being able to do postwork really hit this image and there was little you could do with the atmospherics because of that. I wish the characters had a bit more variety to them too. I did like your "rant" as you will not be surprised if you read my previous fave to you.

What brave souls they were too! This is brilliant! Your poses and expressions are so wonderful I feel like I'm entering the scene in full zoom. All the characters are looking at the sick man except that one and he is looking directly at the camera or me. It's startling at first. First class work. Just beautiful!
