Description

A couple of years ago, I visited the Carmelite Monastery in Carmel, California. The moment I stepped on the grounds, I felt a sense of peace and calm. It's quiet, with many small places to sit and take it in. This bench was in one of those spots.

Yep I've been there, but at the time my mates and I were all bickering so there wasn't a ounce of tranquility anywhere!

That's the very same style bench as at the Bellevue Botanical Gardens! They have a bunch of them there, and I just love the design. Wonderful shot!

Cool spotlight kind of approach in this shot of the solitary bench contrasted against the dark, dark background, Maz. A bench right up Denise's alley.

This is quite nice. Almost abstract. Your removal of the background makes for a stunning shot that feels less photographic and more...I don't know...emotional. Hmmm...does that make sense. It's like taking a component of something large out of context and narrowing the focus down to extreme intimacy until what's being observed takes on different and surprising attributes. That's always a great thing; it's like learning how to see--we can all see (unless we're blind, of course) but very few people with sight actually know how to use it to its fullest extent, and this image is one of those that shows a different (no less real) way of seeing something. I really like the effect of that too. This is really fantastic stuff. Also, I noticed that if you moved the bench more to the right...or just cropped a bit of the right side of the black border off, this would make an excellent flag! I'm weird like that!

Love the stark brightness, of the bench, surrounded by deep darkness. Dana
