Description
hello and welcome. thank you for taking the time to view my work. and an extra thanks to those who take the time to comment or support it with favorites. i hope you enjoy it.
this is another one of my lighting studies with light designed to match a photo. this one never quite had the look i wanted, which i suspect is due to Poser's lack of SSS. the skin never had the same glow. the big lesson i learned from this was to reduce the bump map before rendering full resolution. at my test resolution, the bump looked perfect, but at full resolution it was way too strong. this is doubly bad for skin because bump really puts the lie to surfaces that should have sub-surface scattering and don't.
i included the original render and a midpoint in postwork to show the original lighting and give an idea of the kind of postwork i do.
the materials are all my own. the beautiful texture, lipstick mask, and eyeliner mask is from Sandra by RobynsVeil and HeRaZa, the bump map is by Liquid Rust, the blush and eyeshadow mask are by me, and the eyebrow mask is from Okami by Surreality. the character uses morphs i dialed, and includes pieces of the DAZ morphs I own (everything except the International ones) and Morphia by Capsces. the necklace is from the MyLady Hair set by goldtassel and SWAM. it took a village ;-D. as always the materials are all mine, including the gold, though none of them would have been possible without bagginsbill.
right now i'm working on making a texture from scratch. it's taking a while because i'm writing a tutorial for it as i go. i'm not sure yet how i'll publish it. i think the results are pretty good, so far.

The postwork is subtle but it makes a huge difference--I like how the details of the hand and the eyes are right, and how the necklace sits exactly as it should. It's one of those renders that look simple at first glance until you look closely and see all the work and thought put in it!

This image touches on a wealth of technique / knowledge / study / development currently growing and morphing and evolving before my very eyes: I feel so privileged to be part of this. Nothing KobaltKween does is cookie-cutter: everything is fresh and cutting-edge, as this image shows. It's not about showing Poser artists how it's done: it's about giving the tools to allow artists to develop distinctly unique art because new concepts are at work. Don't ask KobaltKween for the MakeArt button. She'll show you how to build one. I owe this wonderful woman a huge debt of gratitude: she's done more to open my eyes and get that "weasel running around in my tummy" than just about anyone I know!

This time I'm really glad you included the non-postworked images that show your progression. It goes from a decent Poser render to a truly vibrant render. I admire your dark skin shader again. Your work is inspiring. There's still much for me to learn, but I look forward to it.

I think a skin pore map set in negative displacement might help you in such a closeup. Bumpmaps, to me,, are just there to break up a blinned surface and don't resemble anything in reality. If properly spaced and displaced they make a good goosebump but that is pretty specialized. Parts of the body have more texture than others... so, in the end you make an entire set of maps for each render. I think you need to up your mesh shapes to match your surface tech at this point. V4 is just too smooth and devoid of details. Nice render and color. Focal seems high to me.

great render for sure, and the big one has an almost photography like feeling for sure

I always decrease bump when rendering big and close ups, yours here looks very good - especially on her forehead. Her face is beautiful, love shape of her nose. How's that tutorial going? :)
