Description

A statue of Mary at the Carmelite Monastery. I love the shells that surround her and how they're so worn and aged.

Great composition, with those abalone looming large in the foreground.

You don't see many of those abalone shells around any more; when I was a kid they were everywhere on the beaches in Southern California. I think I remember reading that they're protected now? Wonderful find and capture.

What a shot! I should be sleeping, but as usual, I'm scrounging around the galleries for a few minutes, then turning in. I love this image, it's quite relaxing and deliciously surreal. Should shells be that big in relation to a statue? Yeah, okay, they are, and that's what's so cool about this. I also love the light and the subtle sense of color. Yeah, this is a good one!

When I first saw this, before reading the comments, I thought, "Chip will think they look like giant woodlice." But apparently it was just me. LOL! I agree with him about the surreal business, though. It does have that vibe!

Interesting material for an alcove but a beautiful capture and POV. Dana
