Description

The White Pawn "Pawns in the game are not victims of chance" (c) Sting 1985 "Children's Crusade" Dream of the Blue Turtles ~~~~ Rather than make the Pawn out to be some mere peasant or serf, I went with the traditional idea that the Pawns are actually the infantry of the board. The first wave of defense in the battle ahead. There is, after all, only one other piece on the board that can actually start the game other than the Pawn...and we just can't have these guys pointlessly sacrificing themselves, right? Thanks for all the wonderful support through this series! I'm enjoying working on it and am really glad it's gone over so well! ENJOY! The King and Queen of each side will be the finals of the series. Right now just working with some ideas for the next few and just how I'm going to pull some of these off! It was asked by Mikeerson on the last Chess piece if I even knew how to play. Yes, Mike, but it's been a long time. My Dad and I used to play Chess a lot and I've played a few games on the computer (actually BEAT a program called SARGON one time...don't ask me how, I STILL can't figure it out, but I won). Chessmaster 2000/3000 just annoys me. Great image, Stacey, but there is a bit of a problem, when they reach the 8th row, they become Queens more often than not

Love your take on the White Pawn and your commentary about them! Like the idea of treating them like the infantry soldiers and not just as "Operation Human Shield" chuckles The posing on this guy is superb, love the use of both the shield and sword. Even as regal as he appears he's still not as imposing a piece as some of your others which plays well into the chess design I think. I've played chess a few times myself, but I was never any good at it. I have no head for strategy. I just like to collect nice chess sets for the figures, like my LOTR sets.

so you do play... have you ever seen 4 player chess? I bought one for my daughter - she was into chess club for a couple years - she's really good, just has never beat'n me. but, the 4 player chess is a trip. imagine 3 people that know you're good and chess and they all gang up and come after you - and you freak'n win!!! lol.... I bought that for my daughter when she was 11. She turns 22 this month - time flys. damn, I almost left without saying what your art says to me. I like this a lot, the color? I'll let ya slide, but the image - awesome... as soon as I saw it it was as if he's looking up at the killer queen and is trying to now threaten her but at the same time standing ready... So far, this is my favorite piece that you've made.

Very nice piece. We have played chess in our home all our lives. I am terrible at it but my dad was a master. Played in many, many tournaments and won.Still have chess sets all over the place. Had one my grandmother sent us from Europe. Each piece was carved and it was such a delicate set. Something similar to what your putting together with the medieval Knights. Your doing a great job.
