Rather than make the Pawn out to be some mere peasant or serf, I went with the traditional idea that the Pawns are actually the infantry of the board. The first wave of defense in the battle ahead. There is, after all, only one other piece on the board that can actually start the game other than the Pawn...and we just can't have these guys pointlessly sacrificing themselves, right?
Thanks for all the wonderful support through this series! I'm enjoying working on it and am really glad it's gone over so well!

this aught to be good - lol... Now your pieces of w and b reflect each other - the shields are different, but still look the same... wonder if your kings are gonna be young, old, barbarians??? and are your queens going to have that power look lie Xena or some experienced woman and I don't mean street either - but you might - lol... can't wait to see the royalty.... Where's the Jester in all this? and is a J in cards really a Jack or is it the Jester - oops, I brought up cards, that might be your next source of inspiration.
